Sri Lankan Style Easy TUNA Airbun Recipe

Hello there,

Today I have come up with one of my all-time favorite bun recipe, which is very soft and fluffy. Our easy Airbun recipe is perfect for dinner or for tea times.

Basically these Airbuns are not baked, instead, we fry them. So those who don’t have an oven in their homes don’t need to be worried you guys too can try this soft and fluffy bun.

Don’t worry about oil consumption because these buns don’t absorb oil much and at the same time it gets fried so quickly. All you have to do is transfer the fried buns into a bowl covered with paper towels to absorb the oil.

These buns are very easy to make, I have kept the recipe simple and I’m so sure that kids of all ages would love it.

All you have to do is make the bun dough leave it for 4 hours and then make small balls and make them into disk-like shape then let it raise for another hour then you fry them up and just do the filling. Sounds simple right.

You will love it when you finish making these soft and fluffy buns.

AIRBUN FILLING INGREDIENTS

  • Some salad leaves
  • Cheese slices
  • Tempered tuna fish

STEP -01 : How to make Airbun Dough

Take half a cup of Luke warm water to add the milk powder into it and beat well then add the yeast and sugar it and mix all together. Keep it closed for about 10 minutes for the yeast to get activated.

After about 10 minutes you can see the yeast is being activated and it has raised up to the brim of the cup.

Then take a large glass bowl, put the flour into it. Make sure you sift the flour. Then add the butter eggs and salt into it and mix well using your hands. Then gradually add the yeast which we already kept aside to get activated, mix them then add another cup of water to the flour mixture and knead well until you get a fine dough which does not get sticked on the wall of the bowl. Now cover the bowl with a cling wrap and keep it aside for about 4 hours.
You can take a little rest ha Haa.

After 4 hours’ time, the dough will get doubled the size, then again knead the dough for another few minutes, give it a punch.

Then make small balls of equal size out of it.

Once you make the ball, take one by one and make it into disk shape using your hands
Don’t use a rolling pin, then place it on an oil-coated plate (to avoid sticking)

Keep it aside for another 1 hour for it to raise. After 1 hour you will see the buns are raised nicely.

STEP -02 : How to fry the bun

Take a vessel to place it on medium flame and add oil into it. Make sure you have poured enough oil into the vessel. Then fry the buns on medium flame. Flip the buns in order to get them fried evenly. Then transfer it to the plate covered with paper towels in order to absorb the oil containing in it.

STEP -03 : How to Fill the Bun with tempered tuna fish and salad

Now comes the assembling part. All you have to do now is cut the bun, keep a piece of salad leaves in the middle and Place the cheese slice and on top of that place a spoon full of tempered tuna fish.

I will make a description of how to make this fantastic tempered tuna fish in the near future.

It’s not a must to keep tuna fish as the filling, you can go with whatever you like. If you are a chicken lover, you can go with some chicken fillings or only vegetables. It’s up to you.

Now the soft and fluffy air bun is ready.

Serve it hot, you’ll love this Sri Lankan Airbun.. Give it a try and share your experience. I’m so sure you will never go wrong with this recipe.
